The management wishes to acknowledge the contributions of Mr. Yousaf Kamal former Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala and the founder President of the Society. The management and the members are however especially indebted to Mr. Khalid Sultan, President of the Society presently posted as DCO Lahore without whose efforts the Housing Scheme could never have taken off. The project since its start in 1982 suffered a long stalemate till 2000. The main impediment was the non-availability of NOC as well as approvals from the concerned military and cantonment authorities. The project witnessed significant impetus with the posting of Mr. Khalid Sultan as Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala in 1998. His arrival at Gujranwala proved to be a turning point for the fate of the Scheme. He combined his influence, imaginative planning and skills with rigorous follow-up for the necessary approvals, allotments and commencement of development works. Not only the arduous work of obtaining NOC from Cantonment and Garrison authorities was completed but project was also got cleared form the Quarter Master General’s Branch of GHQ Rawalpindi. Unfortunate circumstances resulted in the voluntary resignation of Mr. Khalid Sultan from the elected membership of the Society. This triggered a bitter power struggle between various officials/groups resulting into another deadlock. The construction work was stopped and the future of the project looked uncertain. Mr. Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry the then Registrar Cooperatives took the bold initiative of approaching Mr. Khalid Sultan once again at Peshawar where he had been posted as Secretary to the Government of the NWFP. Luckily for the society he accepted the challenge and took over as its administrator in January 2002 and immediately got the work restarted which resulted in the completion of Phase-I in December 2003. After successful completion of the Phase-I, the development works in the Phase-II of the scheme has already been commenced. Under his inspiring leadership the pace with which the Phase- II project is progressing, it is expected that same shall be completed within a record time.
